On Saturday, January 31, the community association hosted a free drop-in event for families, especially families with younger kids. We rented out the gym at des Voyageurs school and for 2.5 hours families got to play and chat together out of the cold.
The setup was pretty simple, for about $60 for a 4-hour booking and $15 plus some donated materials, we had half the gym set up for sports and running around, and in the other half we had tables for arts and crafts, and for blocks and building.
We already got lots of great feedback, and about 50-60 people in total participated from start to finish. There are definitely some small tweaks to make for the next iteration of this event, but it was a great success for our first time and a model we can replicate at other schools across the community, especially if we can get parent councils or admin from other schools involved.
If you attended and have any feedback, we’d love to hear it. If you’re interested in attending a future Play Social event near you, or even helping host one, I’ll be setting up a mailing list very soon. For now, reply here or email [email protected] if you’d like to be kept in the loop. We’ll also be updating Drop-in Play Social - Convent Glen Orléans Wood with future events.
